Silent Inspirations is completing a Redesign
- bear with us as we complete our new look
I walk the beach alone, visual perceptions on alert, camera in hand. The sun is beginning it's descent, painting it's glorious farewell on the horizon, before setting seemingly into the depths of the vast sea beyond the rolling surf.
It's mid week and only a few other people attend this evening's show. We distance ourselves to capture the incredible feeling of solitude, the feeling of being at one with the sand, with the sea, with the sky; a small part of a magnificent whole.
The sky is changing. With no clouds the radiant sunset is a glow of color, air brushed rather than stroked against the clear blue canvas.
My camera captures each stage of the brilliant orb dropping from its pedestal to rest serenely beyond our vision as day becomes night.
My breath catches as I watch the motion and feel the movement in my soul, inspired by the magical transformation.
The show is over. The golden sun is beyond my view. But, the curtain does not close. The pastel glow surrounds the whole scene, from beach to horizon, and beyond the dunes. I put my camera away. I sing full voice and my hands dance and sign the words I cannot hear. A sense of freedom, unlike any I have ever experienced, washes over me. I watch the waves, awed by the perpetual motion. Swells, great and small, rise up and tumble against the shore.
Suddenly, I'm struck by silence. I watch the unending motion, the rising and falling waves pushed toward the shore by unseen forces. Silence. I begin to weep. Where is the sound? I stare. My heart crests and crashes with the motion of the surf. I can't remember the sound. I stand gazing intently at the water, willing the memory of the sound to return as tears flow as silently as the scene before me.
I am startled by color. There, at the very edge, where the waves lose their power and roll gently across the beach and retreat. The sky of soft pinks and purple, blending with the last golden glow of daylight is reflected on the sand. Moved beyond words by the awesome collision of sand, sea, and sky, my weeping changes from sadness to the greatest joy.
I see a view of nature that has alluded me all my life until now. My eyes have given me what my ears cannot. Once again I am at peace. Once again, my heart soars with freedom and a sense of belonging.
This is my miracle for today. There are miracles in my life every day, but often I'm too busy to experience them. It seems just when I think there are no more, that I receive the gift of awareness.
